Strong Acids and Bases

Always a good idea to memorize the 7 Strong Acids and 8 Strong Bases that we use in chemistry classes.

The 7 Strong Acids

  • Hydrochloric acid - HCl
  • Hydrobromic acid - HBr
  • Hydroiodic acid - HI
  • Perchloric acid - HClO4
  • Chloric acid - HClO3
  • Sulfuric acid - H2SO4 (note only the first proton is strong)
  • Nitric acid - HNO3

The 8 Strong Bases

  • Lithium hydroxide - LiOH
  • Sodium hydroxide - NaOH
  • Potassium hydroxide - KOH
  • Rubidium hydroxide - RbOH
  • Cesium hydroxide - CsOH
  • Calcium hydroxide - Ca(OH)2
  • Strontium hydroxide - Sr(OH)2
  • Barium hydroxide - Ba(OH)2
